Surfing is one of the most extreme sports that makes you face the water element and test yourself for strength. In fact, it is riding on the waves using a special board called a surfboard. As a rule, it looks like this: a surfer catches a wave, usually moving towards the shore, and then begins to slide along its front or bottom, performing various tricks.
Surfing arose many centuries ago in Polynesia, and later began to practice in the Hawaiian Islands, which are currently considered the birthplace of this sport. Competition with the wave was a way to show your courage and strength to the spirit. Initially, this lesson was available only to representatives of the upper classes. It is believed that if the king could not cope with the wave, he was deprived of the throne. The first acquaintance of Europeans with this sport occurred in 1767 during a trip around the world. At the beginning of the 20th century, Hawaiians George Frith and Duke Kahanomoku spread this fun on the shores of America and Australia, gradually surfing began to gain popularity. By the 60s, the whole world already knew about him.
Currently, surfing is a full-fledged sport, which is regularly held at various levels of competition. There are many professional surfing associations. The most famous are the International Surfing Association and the World Surf League.
For many, surfing is just a way to actively spend the weekend, meet new people, see the world and get an unforgettable experience. However, choosing such a hobby, it is worth considering that this is not the safest attraction. Sharks are one of the most serious threats to any surfer. There are many stories of attacks of these predators on extremals. As a rule, these meetings ended for the athlete with either death or disability.
One of the most famous stories on this subject is the fate of Bitani Hamilton. At the age of thirteen, the girl encountered a toothy predator during another meeting with the water element. Everything went as usual, but in an instant something abruptly grabbed her left hand and did not let go. With sharp jerks, the athlete was drawn down, she miraculously stayed on the board. Bitani survived, but completely lost her left hand. What happened did not force her to engage with her dangerous hobby. Now she has her own children, and she still keeps the bloodied board as a memory.
The famous surfer Shannon Ainsley has also become potential prey for two sharks. One flew into it and dragged it to the bottom in an instant, and the second set out to tear it to pieces, but did not begin to do so, because it saw that the prey was already in the teeth of a larger shark. With incredible efforts, the athlete managed to swim out. Only on the shore did he notice that his hands were torn to the bone, and most of his fingers were simply missing.
Of course, sharks are the main fear of surfers. However, a scandalous video appeared a long time ago in which a young man threw a piece of meat tied to a fishing line into the water in order to lure a predator. He himself held onto the free end. The ocean storm did not take long to wait. The shark seized the prey and began to roll the surfer through the water. The result was a kind of water ski, only the athlete was towed not by a boat, but by a deadly predator. This crazy event lasted only a few minutes. From the shore they watched in horror. It is not known what goals the extreme pursued, perhaps he wanted to become famous for his fearlessness or just looked for thrills, no one would know for sure. The main thing is that everything ended happily.
